I've come to the conclusion that i will memorize the entire Odyssey and become the century's first bard instead of going to college for a career.
Socrates
Socrates
- looked to science and logic for answers on the world rather than the gods
- the Socratic method fostered critical thinking
- "the unexamined life is not worth living"
- charged with impiety (disrespecting the gods) and corrupting the youth of Athens
- he didn't deny what he did
- said he deserved free dinner for life for what he did
- he was found guilty and sentenced to death by hemlock poisoning
Plato
- student of Socrates
- he wrote out Socrates teachings
- described his trial in the Apology
Aristotle
- student of Plato
- helped foster the idea of Athens as an intellectual destination
- his school focused on cooperative research
- building on knowledge gathered from all over the world
- tutored Alexander the great
- wrote extensively on every topic known to man
